GEM Lab for Youth

Discover the seeds
of your flourishing.

The GEM Lab is where every young person begins. Through seasonal sprints aligned with the FCD rhythm — Illuminate, Ideate, Innovate, Integrate — participants discover their signature character strengths, design personal well-being practices, and build the self-knowledge that makes everything else possible.

GEM stands for what each participant already carries: their own Gifts, Energies, and Meaning. Named for Gem — who saw the good in everyone.

You already have what you need to flourish. The GEM Lab helps you find it, name it, and learn to use it.

THRIVE Lab for Youth

Deploy your strengths
in the world.

The THRIVE Lab is where what was discovered in the GEM Lab gets tested in the real world. Participants work in teams, build ventures, solve real problems, and pitch to mentors and advisors. The season of doing — where seeds become full flower through collective action.

Entrepreneurship is not only a business skill. It is a tool for agency, for community, and for freedom. The THRIVE Lab teaches young people to build — not just to aspire.

The world needs builders. Not just people who had great ideas — people who knew how to bring other people along, stay in the arena when it got hard, and keep the humanity of the work at the center.

Flourishing Futures Fellowship

For young people
ready to lead — and
to leave something behind.

The F3 Fellowship is the most advanced FYA offering — an immersive program combining deep personal development, professional competencies, community leadership, and a GEM Journey global immersion.

F3 is for emerging adults at a genuine inflection point — graduating high school, taking a gap year, navigating college, or building their first career. The season where everything learned becomes something you can offer the world.

The F3 Fellowship asks one question above all others: not what do you want to achieve — but what kind of person do you want to be while you're achieving it?
For graduating seniors
Senior Year Track

A powerful capstone for high school seniors preparing for what comes next — clarifying purpose, building personal leadership, and completing a GEM Journey before the next chapter begins.

For gap year students
Gap Year Track

The most immersive F3 path. A full year of personal development, global immersion, and community contribution — designed intentionally, not improvised. The gap year done right.

For college students
College Track

For undergraduates who want more than a major. Personal leadership, strengths-based career design, and the GEM Journey that brings global perspective to academic and professional development.

For early career / no college
Early Career Track

For young people building their path outside of traditional academia. Entrepreneurship, professional competencies, global perspective, and the strengths foundation that makes every path more possible.

Included in F3
A GEM Journey —
Global Immersion

Every F3 participant embarks on a curated GEM Journey to one of the world's Character Virtue Hotspots. Place-based learning that cannot happen in a classroom. Wisdom that ancient and contemporary thriving cultures have been building for generations — made available to young people ready to receive it.

Designed by a founder who has worked in 35+ countries and lived with families across Latin America, Africa, and Europe.

From the Founder
"I built the Youth Academy because I wished it had existed when I was young — and because I know what it costs a generation when it doesn't."

I came to my life's work the long way. A high school exchange trip to Spain. Years living with families across Latin America and Africa. A career spent in the hardest arenas of global development — microfinance, HIV prevention, policy advocacy. And all along, one question that never left me: what does it actually take for all people to flourish?

The Youth Academy is my answer to a specific version of that question. Not what should young people know — but what should they be able to feel and do and become. Capable. Purposeful. Globally fluent. Grounded in their own strengths. Ready to build something worth building.

No mud, no lotus. Everything I know about flourishing I learned the hard way — through failure, through iteration, through seasons of deep difficulty followed by surprising beauty. That is the methodology. And it works for young people too.
